My journey, our shared path

Finding my voice, finding an outlet

I needed an outlet, a place to vent, and to share the daily challenges of having autistic twins. This blog became a form of therapy for me, a way to know that I am not alone in this difficult life. My goal is to help, support, understand, and empathize with families navigating autism spectrum disorder.

Welcome to a deeper look into the heart of My Crazy Life with Autistic Twins. Here, I share the personal experiences that inspired this blog, hoping to connect, inform, and uplift.

Moments of joy and daily hurdles

Life with autistic twins is a tapestry woven with both profound joy and significant challenges. The good moments are truly heartwarming: the smiles and giggles, a spontaneous hug and a kiss, or a rare cuddle. These instances are treasures that light up our days. However, the tough parts are equally real. Even small tasks, like changing diapers, brushing hair, doing their nails, or getting one of them to poop, can become monumental hurdles.

We are all in this together

After reading my story, I hope you feel that we are all in this together. My main takeaway is the urgent need to bring more attention, awareness, help, and funding to families caring for autistic children. This world, as it stands, is often designed for neurotypical kids, not for those on the autism spectrum. Together, we can advocate for a more inclusive and understanding society.

"If someone can resonate, find hope, inspiration, or know that a lot of us are on the same journey, then maybe it will be a little less stressful or tough."

Thanksgiving 2021-Part 3

September 21, 2021. A day that our second transfer would happen. I was asked before going in the procedure room if I wanted one or two embryos. I didn't give any detailed thought to the question or the reaction to the action. My thought process was solely this, if one doesn't take, then maybe the other will and we tried one before and it didn't work, so two sounds like a better option. So, I said it. Let's do two. I was by myself in the room and didn't even consult my poor husband on it. I just went for it. I was getting older, the clock was ticking and it takes so long per transfer, from start to finish, meds, injections, blood tests, etc. I went for it. IF ONE DOESN'T TAKE, THEN MAYBE THE OTHER ONE WILL! The next few weeks were the same thing, wishing and hoping and prayers for a miracle. I felt so much better. Less stressed...for the most part. I had left my insanely crazy, very stressful, long hours job the beginning of September. Now it was just focusing on the days leading up to and after the transfer. I felt better at home waiting.

September came and went. October started. We waited.

Monday, October 11th, 2021. Thanksgiving. I had a rough night sleeping. Felt off. Woke up early that monday at 7 and instantly had to run to the bathroom and get sick. So why not pee on a stick too?! Haha! And I did! 3 of them!! I was in complete shock. All 3 were positive. The transfer worked!!! I told my husband. We were ecstatic but in disbelief too. A baby. We finally got our miracle baby. We told my parents through a fake lotto scratch ticket. They were beyond thrilled. We told his parents too.

My first ultrasound and blood test were the end of October. The first of many ultrasounds with the pregnancy. I will never forget that first one. And the realization and words spoken outnof my husband's mouth at the miracle shown on the screen. Not one, but two. Two miracle babies!!! "Oh, shit!" My husband apologized to the ultrasound tech. She laughed and said. "No worries, I've heard it all!!" We were in shock, disbelief and overwhelmed as we left the radiology department to drive the long 3 hours home. Twins!! Twins! Our life was instantly changed forever! My not one, but two worked. Both embryos took. Here we go! Hang on cause it is going to be a bumpy ride.

My pregnancy was considered high risk. I was compelled to do everything right and give these babies the best chance at living and growing that I possibly could. I ate as best as I could (morning sickness was an insane all day, every day thing. Ugh!!) Took my vitamins and stayed away from unhealthy things. I was huge. I weighed 220 pounds at their birth and was so swollen. I could barely fit into my shoes. The edema was terrible. I tried compression socks, full stockings and putting my legs up to no avail. Babies had a few complications while in the womb. Due to the risk and complications, I was scheduled for a c-section in May of 2022. I wanted them to be born on their late great grandma's birthday, but my OBGYN only had the OR theaters on Thursdays. Lol. So here we go, the adventure is about to start....
